For a small DTC brand that needs five or more new Meta ads every week, the best setup is the one that also covers the research, briefs and test plan. Freelancers, design subscriptions and AI generators each leave those jobs with you, and that is where a small team's hours go.
Below, eight setups are laid out by what each leaves on your plate, who picks the tests, and what it costs, with every price sourced. CreatStrat sells one of them.
Why does getting new ads every week take so many hours?
The finished files are the part you see. Behind each one sits research into what the ad should say, a brief someone can build from, Meta copy, a review round, and a decision about what the ad tests. Multiply that by five or ten ads and the week fills up, whoever owns it. The weekly creative operating system shows that week when it runs well.
Meta sets the pace. According to Meta (November 19, 2024), "the best creative diversification leaders routinely launch new ads on a weekly basis." For Advantage+ shopping campaigns, the same page recommends at least 20 diversified ads, spending 20 to 30 percent of your ad budget on testing new ads, and reviewing a creative brief "in a weekly meeting" with your ad buyer and creative teams.
Not every new ad works (creative hit rate collects the published figures), so the supply has to keep coming (creative fatigue as a supply problem).
How many new ads a week can your budget actually judge?
Start here, because the number decides which setups are candidates at all. Work out how many new ads your budget can judge each week before you price anything. Under five a week points to the cheaper rows below. Five or more starts ruling some of them out.
What does each way of getting weekly Meta ads put on your plate?
The new-ads column is illustrative except where a vendor publishes its own unit. The 'what lands on you' column lists tasks, because no source publishes hour counts. Prices are the vendor's or reviewer's own, on the date shown, and no vendor is ranked.
The cheapest setup per month is often the most expensive per hour, because whoever writes the brief owns the week. (our judgement, no source publishes hours)
| Setup | Illustrative new ads a week | What lands on you each week | Who decides what to test | Monthly cost (source, date) | Breaks when |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Founder DIY with Meta's built-in tools | 1-3 | Everything: concepts, assets, copy, uploads and review | You. Meta generates variations of the assets you supply | Your time. The tools sit inside Ads Manager | A busy week, and the new ads stop |
| In-house hire | Depends on the role | Managing the person, plus briefing unless the hire is a strategist | You, or the hire if senior | Graphic designer median pay $62,960 a year before employer costs (BLS, May 2025 data); loaded cost in creative strategy cost | One person is asked to do strategy, design and editing |
| Freelancer | 2-5 | Research, every brief, copy, feedback rounds, scheduling | You, unless you also hire a strategist | Payscale average $38.06 an hour for freelance graphic designers, updated Jun 28, 2026 (hourly, not a monthly quote) | One person's availability becomes your cadence |
| UGC marketplace | A batch, not a weekly flow | Writing the brief each creator interprets, approvals, licensing | You write the brief; the creator interprets it | $550 for up to 6 videos at one marketplace, checked Oct 18, 2026; the same page says content takes 2-3 weeks on average | You need ads in days, or a fresh set every week |
| Design subscription | Vendor's unit is "daily output", not ads | Each request, reviews, change requests, and the copy unless you ask for it | You, through your requests | From $699 a month at one provider and $995 at another, checked Oct 18, 2026 | Nobody has written the briefs and test plan |
| AI ad generator | Many variants per input | Choosing inputs, picking among variants, writing or checking copy, deciding the test | You | From $39 a month at one generator, checked Oct 18, 2026 | You need a reason to test, not more versions |
| Agency | Depends on scope | The agency makes and often runs the ads; you handle approvals, status calls, sometimes briefing | Usually the agency, depending on scope | Averages of reviewed projects on Clutch, not quotes: advertising agencies $9,890.93, design agencies $5,101.86, updated Sep 21, 2026 | The retainer outgrows your ad budget |
| Weekly plan with finished ads (CreatStrat) | 5, 10 or 20 (the plan sizes) | Onboarding once. Then no required tasks, optional steering notes; you launch the ads in your own Meta account | The weekly test plan, which you can steer with a note | $299 / $499 / $899 a month for 5 / 10 / 20 ads a week, billed monthly, cancel anytime | Plans start at 5 ads a week |

To put your own number on the "what lands on you" column:
Weekly owner hours = new ads a week × (brief time + review time per ad) + coordination time.
For illustration only: 5 ads at one hour each of briefing and review, plus an hour of coordination, is 6 hours a week. In the rows where someone else writes the brief, that term drops off your side.
Where someone else writes the brief, brief time drops off your side of the line.
One customer's team described the research and briefing part:
Our team was spending roughly 15-20 hours a week researching, brainstorming and briefing creative. CreatStrat brought that down to under three.

How do you choose? A four-step rule
Call it hours first. It's a judgement call drawn from the table, not a measured ranking.
Under 5 new ads a week, pick a freelancer or build in Ads Manager; at 5 or more with no hours to spare, pick a setup that includes the research, briefs and test plan.
- Count the ads: find how many new ads your budget can judge each week.
- Count your hours: run the formula above with your real brief and review times.
- Decide who picks the tests: some founders want to call every test, others want a plan to react to.
- Match: under 5 a week, a freelancer or DIY with Meta's tools. At 5 or more with a few hours free, if you want to call the tests, a freelancer or design subscription working from your briefs. At 5 or more with no hours, a setup that includes research, briefs and the test plan: an agency if you also want media buying handled, a weekly plan if you don't. If your best ads are real people on camera, add a UGC marketplace alongside the rest.
If you write the briefs, start from a production-ready ad brief. Whichever setup you pick, hold it to what a weekly ad creative service should deliver. If one row is already your shortlist, the strategist alternatives guide, the agency alternatives guide and the subscription guide go deeper.
Can Meta's own AI tools or an AI ad generator cover it?
Partly. Meta describes Advantage+ creative as using "AI to generate and enhance ad variations across single image, video and carousel formats," and its product page says the tools appear when you add an image or video to an ad or build a catalog ad. You bring the starting asset, so the concept is set before the tools touch it.
Meta's built-in AI tools and AI ad generators make more versions of an ad you've already conceived; choosing what to test, and why, stays with you.
The features Meta's page lists (background generation, image and video expansion, image animation, text and image generation) work on assets, not on research or test planning. An AI ad generator works at the same stage: it turns your inputs into many variants quickly, and you decide which run and what each test is for. More in the Meta AI guide.
Where does CreatStrat fit?
CreatStrat is a software subscription that delivers finished ads every week. CreatStrat researches, plans the tests, writes the brief, and produces the finished statics, carousels, mashups, AI video, and AI UGC, each with its Meta copy. Your creative strategist is built in.
Plans are $299, $499 or $899 a month for 5, 10 or 20 ads a week: one combined price, billed monthly, cancel anytime. You share brand and product context and upload photos and footage once; after that there are no required tasks, and steering notes are optional. Mashups are cut from your own footage, and in AI UGC an AI presenter presents the product (how AI UGC compares with creator UGC). The Meta connection is read-only; connected results are how CreatStrat learns and plans the next batch. CreatStrat produces the finished ads; you launch them in your own Meta account.

Frequently asked questions
What's the best way to get new Meta ads every week? It depends on your hours and whether you want to pick the tests. Under 5 new ads a week, a freelancer or Meta's built-in tools can cover it. At 5 or more with no hours to spare, choose a setup that includes the research, briefs and test plan.
How do small brands keep up with ad creative? Pick a setup that covers the briefs and test plan, not only the files. Meta's November 2024 guidance says the best creative diversification leaders launch new ads weekly.
Can I just use Meta's built-in AI tools to make my ads? For variations of what you supply, yes. Meta's Advantage+ creative page describes tools that generate and enhance ad variations when you add an image or video. Deciding the concept and what each ad tests is still your job.
Is a design subscription enough for weekly Facebook ads? Only if you already write the briefs. A design subscription makes what you request, so the research, briefs and test plan stay with you. Entry tiers at two providers started at $699 and $995 a month when checked on Oct 18, 2026 (Sources 7 and 8).
How many hours a week does making Meta ads take? No published source gives a standard figure. Count your own: new ads a week times your brief and review time per ad, plus coordination. The setups in Table 1 differ in how much of that brief and review time lands on you.
When is an AI ad generator the wrong choice? When what you're short of is a reason to test rather than more versions. A generator turns your inputs into many variants quickly; choosing the concept and deciding what each test should teach you is still your job.
